Hawaii is a group of islands which locate in the central Pacific Ocean. The total area of the islands are 16633 km3, and they lie 2397 miles from San Francisco, California, to the east and 5293 miles from Manil-ato the west. The capital city of Hawaii is Honolulu, located on the island, Oahu, which is the third larg-est island in Hawaii. Hawaii became the fifty state of America in August 21th in 1959.
History
of Hawaii
Although Hawaii became the 50th state of the U.S in 1959, but there were already some people landed this island hundred years ago. About 1500 years ago, Polynesians were the first one who discovered and landed this land.
In 1778, Captain James Cook landed the island of Kauai. And Captain Cook named the islands “ Sandwich Island.” A year later, Captain James Cook got kill in Hawaii.
In 1810, King Kamehameha controlled Hawaii, and a year after King Kamehameha died, his son, Liholiho, abolished an old system of Hawaii.
In 1820, the first group of missionaries arrived in Hawaii. Then Hawaii became the harbor that were a lot of sailors, merchants, and fishermen. And in 1898, Hawaii became the territoryof America.
In the twenty century, sugar manufacturing and pineapple planting made the economic development

Hawaii better than ever, and so a lot of Japanese, Chinese, Filipino,
and Portuguese came to Hawaii for work. Under James Dole's
controlled, Lanai Island became the first place where produce
pineapple, and people called the island “Pineapple Island.”
In 1959, Hawaii became the 50th state of America.
Culture of Hawaii
Temperate climate, beautiful beach, group of islands, and azure sea represent this amazing island “Hawaii.” Beside these characteristics of Hawaii, culture of Hawaii is also really special and interesting, such as the tradition dance, lei and their language. And everything characteristics makes Hawaii unique, special, and unforgettable.

Language of Hawaii
Language of Hawaii is a part of their culture, King Kamehameha lll established the first Hawaiian-language in 1839 and 1840. And their language represent the passion of Hawaiian. For example, the first word you may say or hear when you walk out of the airport of Hawaii must be “Aloha!” the word “aloha” means “welcome,” or “hello, or “thank you,” or “good-bye.” Hawaiian language is along with English, it's an official language of the state of Hawaii.

Some
popular Hawaiian words and phrases:
Baby: Keiki or pepe

Please join us: Ho'olu komo la kaua
Happy Birthday ~ Hau`oli la Hanau (pronounced how-oh-lay la ha-now)
Thank you: Mahalo
Good morning: Aloha kakahiaka
I Love You: Aloha Au Ia 'Oe
My love is yours:

The Hula Dance
Hula is the soul of Hawaiian that they expressed in motion.. Some of the Hawaiian believes that th-e first hula was performed by a god or goddess, and some people say that only men dance hula, but legend t-lls that both women and men danced hula. Hula was performed in the
religious cerem-onies. In hula, every moment has its own special mea-ning, those moments represent various of things, such as plants, anima-ls, and even war.

Fruit of Hawaii
The weather of Hawaii is good for growing some fruit, so you can find many fruit in Hawaii, such as avocados, bananas, papayas, pineapple, etc. And most of the fruit in Hawaii is really sweet because of the hot weather.

In Hawaii, the word “Luau” means feast. The definition of the word Luau is Hawaiian party. In ancient Hawaii, women could not eat with man, no matter who you were, but the situation changed while King Kamehameha ll abolished all these kind of tradition al religious practices and these was called the Luau.

Global Issue of Hawaii
Hawaii is the only state in the United State that is an island, however, the climate become the global issue of Hawaii. Hawaii is influence in sea level rises, coastal flooding and a lot of impacts causedby climate change. According to the global climate report of Hawaii, the islands have been rising temperatures and rising sea level in lately ten years.
The change of climate and global warming are two very serious problems to Hawaii's environment, heal-th, economy, and natural resource. If the sea level rise, a small island located in Hawaii nor-thwest region
will disappear. And the disappearance of this island will ruin the habitats of birds, fish, and
some animals.

4. Reflection
Everyone in the 19 century humanities class had done with their final exam, which is presentation. I learned a lot in every people's presentation, for example, Angela's told us about how the human treated the rabbit and test them, I think that was really immoral, she also introduced dogs to us. Another example is Kaho's presentation, her presentation was about somethings special in Japan, and what food Japanese usually eat, things like that, and I finally know what is otaku. Tina's presentation was really interesting as well, she told us about some bad effect about playing to much games, and it was really useful and relate to our real life. The last one I am going to talk about is Mr. Kinzer's presentation, I think his presentation was totally aspiring, he was talking about "the edge," and I really want to try more new things that I haven't try to do before, and his presentation makes me want to experience more, and also makes me want to undergo more beautiful experiences in this world. However, it was too bad that i didn't stay until Mrs. Kinzer's presentation because I have to take the school bus!!!

Post 2 : Hotel Rwanda - Three Different Perspectives in the Movie "Hotel Rwanda"

Perspective of Hutus:
In the early year, there were 85 percent of Hutus and 14 percent of Tutsi living in Rwanda. Rwanda was controlled by some of the Tutsi nobles for a long time, and that was why Hutu tried to revolt. The nobles treated Hutus unfairly, and also Tutsis had more right than Hutu, which is why they want to killed all of the Tutsis, and kept saying "Hutu Power," and Hutu instigated people to massacre all the Tutsis by the radio.

Perspective of Tutsis:
Tutsis nobels controlled the country Rwanda in early year, and they treated people in their tribe nicely. Unlike to Hutus, Tutsis treated them unfairly when they were controlling Rwanda, and so Hutu started to oppose Tutsis while Tutsis stopped ruling Rwanda. In the movie, some of the Tutsis include Paul's wife, kids, and neighbor, all of them stay in the hotel to avoid those Hutu who want to massacre all of them.

Perspective of Paul:
Paul was the manager of the hotel. He was Hutu, but his wife, kids, and neighbors were all Tutsis. He let those people to stay in his hotel. He protected about 800 Tutsis, and kept asking for some help from some of his friends how is Hutu.

Post 4 : Feedback of Kaho's Presentation

This is Kaho's Prezi -----> http://prezi.com/vinh2h9rx_aj/egypt/

Kaho's presentation was about Egypt. I think she really did a good job, because she mentioned about what happened in the three important period and also I learned a lot.

I learned that in 19th century, Muhammad Ali emerged as a power figure. When Ottoman power in Egypt was finished, Muhammad Ali established the dynasty that ruled Egypt until the revolution of 1952. As the ruler of Egypt, his primary focus was strengthening Egypt military. In 1820, there was the introduction of long-stable cotton which transformed agriculture in to a cash-crop monoculture before  the end of the century. The Suez Canal built in partnership with the French was completed in 1869.

In 1882, there was a civil war in Egypt. Colonel Ahmed Urabi led an unsuccessful revolt against the Muhammad Ali Dynasty. British used this opportunity to invade Egypt and did not leave until 1954.

On 22-26 July 1952, a group of disaffected army officers led by Lieutenant General Muhammad Naguib overthrew King Farouk, whom the military blamed for Egypt's poor performance in 1948 was with Israel. In 1973, Sadat launched the Yom Kippur where Egypt regained terriory it has lot during Six-Day War.

NATION PROFILE

The second half of the 20th century was a period of unparalleled growth in Europe, one which transformed the lives of its people almost beyond recognition. In 1950 many Europeans heated their houses with coal, cooled their food with ice, and relied on what we might politely call rudimentary forms of indoor plumbing. Today their lives are eased and enriched by natural-gas furnaces, electric refrigerators, microwave ovens, and electronic gadgets that boggle the mind. Over the intervening years, real gross domestic product per capita more than tripled in the countries of the continent’s west and doubled in the countries of its east.

Liberalism
-Giuseppe Mazzini(1850~1872), the founder(1831) of Young Italy, was perhaps the leading figure in liberal nationalism. He saw the creation of a democratic Italian state as crucial to Italy's development.

Nationalism
-Nationalism was the most successful political force of the 9 century.
-It emerged from two main source: the Romantic exaltation of "feeling" and "identity" and the Liberal requirement that a legitimate state be basedon a "people" rather than, for example, a dynasty, God, or imperial demoination.
-"Identity nationalism" and "civic nationalism"--->essentially middle class movements.

Conservatism
Joseph de Maistre thought about conservatism
1. That the fundamental principles of political constitutions exist before all written law.
2. That a constitutions law is, and can only be the development or saction of an unwritten pre-existing right.
3. That which is most essential most written, and could not be without endangering the state.

Socialism- famously promoted by the German philosopher, Karl Marx, socialism is characterized by collective, cooperative, and/or public ownership over the mean of production and distribution as well as capital.

Compare and Contrast Capitalism and Socialism
Kelly Lin
March 1, 2011
Capitalism and socialism are economic systems present in each society. These systems influence each society in a different way. Therefore, it’s important to understand the differences between these two economic systems.

Capitalism is a kind of economic system where individuals privately own their own capital. In short, capitalism is that people own their capital, which can be in the form of property or money, and own everything they have earned. It relates to the government, and the political party of the country. Advantages of this type of economic system are that people can own what they own, have businesses, and get profit. If individuals work hard they will be able to gain more capital. This motivates people to work hard. The disadvantages are that the wealth everyone owns will be totally different, and it will cause competition. People have to work hard to be able to survive. There will be a big social difference, because rich people will be very rich, and the poor people will be very poor.

Taiwan is an example of a capitalistic society, because people in Taiwan can own their property, money, and they don’t have to share what they have with everyone. People who are in a higher social rank and who own a lot of capital will be able to earn more capital.

Socialism is another type of economic system in which capital is owned by the state. In this type of economic system, citizens in the country does not own capital, like in the case of capitalism. It means that everybody is in the same social rank. Wealth will be evenly spread amongst the society, therefore, the advantage of socialism is that the social level of the people in the country won’t be very different, like it would be in a capitalistic society. The government has big control over the society and can provide the society with their necessary needs. This can lead to a healthy and fair society . The disadvantage is that people will all get the same even if some work harder. This means that people are not motivated to work harder. North Korea is an example of a country which has a socialistic economic system. The people in North Korea are in the same social rank. Their wealth will be evenly spread amongst the society.

Socialism and capitalism are two very different economical systems. Capitalism focuses on individuals owning their own capital, and socialism focuses on state owned capital. I think capitalism is better than socialism, because people can own their property, and get more as they work harder, but the social rank of the society will be very different. Though I think capitalism is better, but in some way, socialism is nice too, because people are all equal and everyone is fair, it won't cause that much problem as capitalism does.
