Artifact 3: Headline News - The Luddite
It was a war between British and another 13 colonies of North America, the main reason they fought was because the economy of British, but later, French, Spain, and Holland joined the war suddenly, and it caused the range of the war got bigger and bigger.
In the war, England occupied the city of the colony which was close to the ocean, nevertheless, to control the country became their problem. The French won the fight, and England surrendered in Yorktown in 1781. In 1783, they had Treaty of Paris, lots of villages in the colony left and inhabited in north.

Florence Nightingale (1820~1910)
Florence Nightingale's father was William Edward Nightingale, and her mother was Frances Fanny Nightingale. In the legend, Nightingale had talk to god, and the god tell her to be a nurse, but actually, she was a nurse already in 1837. In the time, people thought nurse is a horrible occupation, only women in low social rank will be nurses.
In 1845, she decided to be a nurse, and her act made her mother upset and angry. Nevertheless, Nightingale did a pretty good job, and it changed the way people thought the nurse was.
In 1855, the queen of England gave Nightingale a panting and a brooch.
In 1856, she was the last rescuer come back from the Crimean War.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Conan Doyle was born on May 22, 1859, British physician, novelist, and detective-story writer, creator of the unforgettable master sleuth Sherlock Holmes.
The Hound Of The Baskervilles
-Published in 1999
-The story is about Sir Charles got kill in the Baskervilles, and no one actually knew what happened. Someone said that that was a curse, and the next person who will died will be Sir Henry, the nephew of Sir Charles. Therefore, Holmes and Watson went to Baskervilles and wanted to find out what was going on. During the time they stayed in Baskervilles, they had seen lots of weird things, the terrified sound of hound, the man who standing on the hill, the latter from a woman called LL, and Mr and Mrs Stapletons were hiding some secret, all the things happened in the Baskervilles were all strange.
This is the part that I think is the most interesting, it is in chapter 13 "Fixing the Nets", and it's about Holmes and Watson noticed that the picture on the wall looks like sometime they seen before...

Artist In 19 Century
Vincent van Gogh (1853~1890)
He bore in a small town in Holland in 1853, his father was a clergyman. Vincent liked to painted when he was little, though he can draw very well, but it was not very helpful to his future. In 1876, he got dismiss, so he went back to Holland. Few months later, he went to Amsterdam for study. In 1879, he became a clergyman in a poor place, even thought it was very hard to lived there, but he was diligent, and experienced the feeling of the refugees. In the 8th month in the poor place, he finished lots of paintings, at the time he felt want to be an artist, so he wrote a letter to his brother, and his brother decided to help him. In 1880, Vincent went to Brussels for learning, but he discontinued his studies because of the poor life, in the time he fell in love with his cousin, and had a fight with his dad, then Vincent left his home again. In 1888, he finished " The Red Vineyard," "The Night Cafe"... In the time, he lived with Paul Gauguin, but their thought were too different, in December, he cut out his ear by himself crazily, people thought he was crazy, so he had been send to the madhouse. After he was out of the madhouse, he finished his work "Sunflower." In 1890, Vincent walked into a filed, and shot himself, and he died two days later.

Artifact 9
Migrant Workers in 19 Century
In 1930, during Great Depression, there were about 500000 Mexican Americans were pressured to leave during the Mexican Repatriation. At first, U.S government brought hundred experienced agricultural labors to farm in the Stockton and California. And because those of the labor were very useful, so this program soon spread to cover most of the United States.
The program mandated a certain level of wages, housing, food and medical care for the worker. The poor and unemployed within Mexico were illegal and employment was attractive enough to motivate many people who work in United Stated illegally.
Labor unions which tried to organize agricultural workers after WWII targeted the Bracero program as a key impediment to improving the wages of domestic farm workers. The end of bracero program in 1964 was followed by the rise to prominence of the united Farm Workers, and the subsequent transformation of American migrant worker.

Cause is a very important part of an event, because every happening have a cause.
And another important thing is effect, an event should have a cause and then have a effect, so cause really relate to effect. Urbanization is a situation that the city start to alter, and it usually spend a lot of time.
Three are three examples for urbanization. The first one is about high paying job, the population of a city is usually changeable, and high paying job is one of the cause. People who work in the country, such as the ranch or a farm, I think they may get the less income than people who work in city, and so people in country may move to city for the high paying job, and that will make the population increase.
The second one is industrial revolution. It is a very big change in economy , it happened in British from 1760 to 1830. The cause was that they change the way they produce every stuff, all the thing was made by hand before, but then machines appeared, then it instead of hand making, and it really changed people's life. After that many factory had build, and British became the first industrial society.
The last one is population migration. It mean the changeability of people, but actually it cause lots of problems, because of there is too many people moving to a place, and some people may not have enough space to live, and unemployment may be more and more. There are some reasons people want to move to cities, more jobs, nice facilities, and maybe fancy life. Oppositely, country will be full of elder. It is a social process, people move because of the environment, though it is a process, but it still cause lots of problems.

Artifact 13: Gapminder Analysis and a Data-Driven Worldview
Income per Person VS Children per Woman
The first graph I choose is "Income per person" vs "Children per woman." I choose these two because I think children per woman really related to the income of a person in 19 century, even nowaday people think of these two related problems. In 1800 to 1820 in the graph, children per woman started move around from 5 to 5.5, and it increase first, and then decrease, and then increase and then decrease, but the income per person didn't change a lot, it started about 3000, and during 1800~1820, it just increase a little bit. Started from 1820, the measure of children per woman started to fall, but the income per person increase to 4000 finally. From 1860~1880, income per person increase more, and children per woman increase a little bit. At the end of 19 century(1880~1890), income per person grow obviously, nevertheless, children per woman fall a lot gradually.
Life Expectancy VS CO2 Emission
In 1800, life expectancy was 40, and CO2 emission was lower than 5. From 1820 to 1860, CO2 emission started to increase, but it wasn't a lot, and life expectancy decrease first, and then increase and then decrease and increase. From 1840 to 1860, life expectancy really changed a lot, it keep moving up and down around 35 to 45, and CO2 emission still move around from zero to ten. Though life expectancy both increase and decrease a lot, but it's still move to about 45 in 1860 to 1880. From 1880 to 1900, CO2 emission increase to over ten, and life expectancy increase to 48. This graph show that CO2 emission kept increasing in 19 century, I think it was because of people started to do something with machine. And life expectancy had increase in 19 century, because medical treatment was better from 1820 to 1900.
Children per Woman VS CO2 Emission
Children per woman was about 5.7, and CO2 emission was about 3 in 1820. And children per woman drop a lot from 1820 to 1840, and CO2 emission didn't change a lot. From 1840 to 1860, CO2 emission finally increase, and children per woman had increase too. And CO2 emission kept increasing until 1874, and then started to drop, and kept dropping, and CO2 emission didn't change a lot during 1860 to 1900. It show that children of per woman was not that much as in early year, and the measure of children started to fall gradually.
