Artifact 5: Primary Source Evaluation-OPVL
Buffalo Hunt, 1846
Francis Parkman was the man who was only 23 years old, and went to Indian village for experience the culture of Native American with his cousin in 1964, After all he published his book. Bison was the mean food resource foe the people who lived there, and that was why people have to approach the bison. The hunt was the mean way to them to life, sinew and bone of animals became tools, and hides became clothing and shelter. The hunt and its products gave rise to and supported complex social, political and cultural institutions.
There were two types of hunting, one was running, and another was approaching. Running was chasing on the horseback, and it was the most common but also the wildest one, and it was dangerous. A good hunter can hunt five to six cows a time. It's better to hunt a single cow than a bunch of cows, and maybe attack it when it's rest.
Approaching is practiced on foot, and it was better than running. You won't died if you full down from the horse. Buffalos are strange animals, sometimes they are stupid and infatuated, but in another time they will be so shy and careful.
